White Chukar Partridge
Rosehayes farm rests on top of the Blackdown Hills on the Devon and Somerset border. It has been the home of Game for Anything for the past 16 years and has , over those years, produced several thousand quail, from the Japanese and Chinese Painted to the more sophisticated breeds like Crested Bob White; Jungle Bush and Masked Bob White.
It was also, in those early years, the home of a large collection of fancy partridge with, amongst others, See See; Brown Breasted; Crested Wood (Roul-Roul) and Rickets Hill for which we hold the first captive breeding record.
We also keep and produce some fancy breeds of quail and Chukar partridge. These are seasonal and fertile eggs are usually available from April to September.
Apart from the game birds we also breed New Zealand White
rabbits.
Keeping and breeding game birds is challenging and rewarding. The excitement of watching your first batch of eggs hatch and see the chicks grow can be quite addictive.
You do not need to spend a fortune on expensive equipment. The incubator will be the biggest cost but even this can be as simple as a polystyrene box with a heating element and a thermostat. The brooder can consist of nothing more than a decent strong cardboard box with an anglepoise lamp fitted with a 60watt red light bulb. Angle the bulb down into the box and place a wire rack on top of the box to support a towel to keep the heat in.
I hope you will find this site helpful.
Good luck.
